چکیده

Experiments were conducted to study the performance of circular and square tank surface aerators on the oxygen transfer coefficient and to a limited extent on power requirements. All the tanks are geometrically similar except for their shapes. They consist of a rotor of diameter, D, fixed with six flat blades rotating with a speed, N, in pure waters of viscosity, υ, at room temperature. A simulation equation to predict the oxygen transfer coefficient, k = KLa20(υ/g) for any given dynamic parameter governing the theoretical power per unit volume, X = N3D2/(g4/3υ1/3) was developed for circular tank aerators. The data on square tank aerators support another such simulation equation developed earlier for square tanks. A comparison of results, while re-aerating the same volume of water in both the shapes of tanks, leads to the interesting conclusion that for a given rotor speed the oxygen transfer rate is substantially more in square tanks than in circular tanks; whereas for a given effective input power to the rotor the oxygen transfer rate is more in circular tanks than in square tanks. This suggests that square tanks are preferred to circular tanks to raise the oxygen concentrations at a faster rate, whereas the circular tanks are advantageous as far as power requirements are concerned.

Rectangular surface aerators.

Aeration experiments were conducted in two rectangular surface aeration tanks of L/B ratios 1.5 and 2 along with a square tank (L/B=1) to study their relative performance due to shape on oxygen transfer process while re-aerating the same volume of water such that the cross-sectional area of all the three tanks is the same. An identical rotor with six flat blades was used in all the three tanks....

Effectiveness of Mechanical Aeration in Floating Aquatic Macrophyte-Based Wastewater Treatment Systems

Outdoor tanks containing the floating aquatic macrophyte water hyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart) Solms] were provided with diffuse aeration to evaluate its effect on wastewater treatment efficiency and plant growth. Light aeration (0.003 and 0.021 L nr min ') had no effect on the treatment of primary domestic effluent in the batch-fed water hyacinth tanks. Heavy aeration (1.03 and 3.53 L nr...

Effects of nanobubble aeration in oxygen transfer efficiency and sludge production in wastewater biological treatment

Low efficiency of conventional aeration techniques and the excessive production and disposal of sludge are great concerns in biological wastewater treatment systems. The present study aimed to evaluate the active sludge method using batch reactors under continuous operation to determine the efficiency of aeration and sludge production through microbubble and nanobubble aeration. The results ind...

Nonlinear fuzzy Control System for dissolved oxygen with aeration System in sequencing batch reactor

Biological processes at a wastewater treatment plant are complex, multivariable, time varying and nonlinear. Moreover, interactions between the components are very strong. Control of dissolved oxygen is one of most important task at the plant. The level of dissolved oxygen in aerobic tanks has significant influence on behaviour and activity of microorganisms at the plant. Air for aerated tanks ...

Effect of process design and operating parameters on aerobic methane oxidation in municipal WWTPs.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and its emission from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) should be prevented. One way to do this is to promote the biological conversion of dissolved methane over stripping in aeration tanks. In this study, the well-established Activated Sludge Model n°1 (ASM1) and Benchmark Simulation Model n°1 (BSM1) were extended to study the influence of process...
